Potty PD: The Most Captive Audience

Are you responsible for professional development in any way?

This post is for you!

There are 10000000000000000000 things weighing on teachers' minds at any given minute. Don't believe me? Ask a teacher what they are thinking about.

No matter when you plan professional development, it will never be a "perfect" scenario. There is always a reason that PD is rushed, skipped, or ignored.

Enter Potty PD.

Everyone has to go. It's a proven fact. Why not use that time to offer tidbits of information that make us better educators?

Not convinced? Check out some examples!

Potty PD Tips

1. Digital Version QR Code

  • Use a tool like Padlet or Wakelet to curate resources to share with your teachers. This let's you grab their attention with the image and allows them to explore more on their own later.

2. Focus on good pedagogy.

  • Remember that we don't want teachers using technology for the sake of using technology.

  • The goal should be to guide teachers to best practices in teaching.

  • Offer options for no tech, low tech, high tech, etc.

3. Stick with a theme.

  • Decide what "sections" you will provide. (Tech Tips, App Spotlight, etc.) Build on these throughout the year.

  • Color-code to be more visually appealing.

  • Don't get font crazy.

  • Add your Bitmoji for extra fun.

4. Include options for response.

  • Add QR codes to a Google Form or Padlet to allow teachers to respond to the content. This is a great way to build community AND to offer incentives!
